the SCHOOL in worldSCHOOLing

School is looking a little different for us this year. No running for the yellow school bus in the morning or forgotten homework. But there also won’t be best friends saving seats at the lunch table or walking into town with friends on a Friday afternoon. Things will look different - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We may still have a “class clown,” but this year she’ll be a sister not just a classmate. And we will still have teachers, but they also go by “Mom” and “Dad.” This year, we are leaving the traditional classroom setting behind & opening the world as the classroom for both us and our kids. We are excited to move at the kids’ pace in their studies, choose topics (and places to travel) based on what we all want to learn - per L’s request, she is studying biology through Khan Academy this fall and their love of animals is driving our visit to The Galápagos Islands later this year.

Though this plan may change frequently, depending on where we are, we’ll spend mornings on our studies and afternoons exploring and learning, field trip style. Below are the main curriculum sources we are using for their studies:

Mathematics: Beast Academy (P) & Math Academy (L)

English Language Arts: No Red Ink, Khan Academy, website/blog contributions

Vocabulary: Classical Roots Vocabulary

‍Typing: typing.com

History: museums, trips to historic sites, Kids Britannica

Science: Khan Academy
